It’s almost been a week

|

It's almost been a week since my last update on the page. There hasn't been much to write about. The best thing that is happening this week is that I get to go home for Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to seeing my girlfriend and family. I'm excited about getting a real meal.
This past week has been a busy one and still is. I had to write a paper for my English class and I have other assignments that need to get done for astronomy and programming. I'm planning on doing those sometime tonight. I'm going to work on the programming after work. I have 2 precious hours. I think I should be able to get that done before class tonight. I hope so. After class, I'll just have to finish up astronomy which should go fairly quick. I think that is all the work I have to do. If there is something else "oh well."
I hope having a tech geek for a brother pays off this summer. I was talking to him and he told me that his work hires interns for the summer. The work sounds like something that I would want to do. All I worry is about the skills. I'm glad that I have this chance at work to lean the skills that I'm going to need. I'll just have to keep in contact with my brother seeing what they will be looking for. My brother is helping me turn into a geek like him. He has added a pointer at his web servers to point to my computer in the dorm so once I get everything set up right I will be able to host my own webserver. Sad to say, I'm really excited about this. I won't have a chance to mess around with it until after Thanksgiving, unless I stay up late tonight. Just keep checking drew.broken-industries.com. What a fun day it

|

What a fun day it is today. Not really. Bored out of my mind once again. The good thing is that I'm almost done with work for the day. I have been somewhat productive today though. This a rare event. I didn't accomplish much on the web page but I did figure out why something's weren't working. It's because security on the UW server. They don't trust the college kids with cgi stuff. I was just trying out some Perl (programming language) that uses the cgi scripts and I couldn't get it working. I finally looked at the web page for my account and I saw that they only allowed three cgi scripts that they already made up. One of those the cgi they had pre-made was a counter, so I threw the old LinkExchange counter away and is using the cgi counter. I think I might have to contact my brother to see if I could get a page on one of his servers. Then I could try out some of the Perl programming language.
This is short, but I'll write more later today.

Wow! I never thought a

|

Wow! I never thought a day could be so boring. I've just sat at work writing e-mails. I did enter add a search engine to the bottom of my page. Too bad that was just cut and paste from a CNET article on how to do it, but, hey it's there. I attempted trying to do some Perl programming stuff, but I dog discouraged when the tutorial I was using didn't work right with the setup of the UW Madison Unix system. So I just got frustrated and ended up giving up and went back to surfing the web for anything that could help me figure out programming crap.
I did finish the program for my Comp Sci class though late Sunday night. Me and a couple other guys in the class went over at midnight to hand in our finished product so we wouldn't have to get up the next morning and do that. Too bad I had grabbed the wrong file and turned it in so my program would not even compile. Luckily I saw the mistake early Monday morning and contacted my TA and he said it was alright for me to hand in the correct file since I had contacted him so early. I would have be seriously peeved if I couldn't have handed in the correct file. I had my program working down to all the little things that were required. There were a couple things that I could tell they threw in just to see who could get it to work. I think I got all the stuff, but who knows for sure.
I came to the realization that I must be the most impatient person alive. This all ties in with the program because I'm probably going to have to wait for a week (it will seem like eternity) until I get my grade on the project. I have always been like this though. I will not eat at the cafeteria here if the wait is more than 10 minutes. That 10 minutes still seems long. I don't know why I am like this, but I'm just impatient beyond belief.

I’m sure you are surprised

|

I'm sure you are surprised that you get two entries in one day. I know I am. I found some dead space in my busy day and I found myself back at the Computer Science building with 10 minutes to spare so I thought I'd use this time wisely and add another entry rather than do calculus. I think anyone would have made the same choice if they only had those two choices.
I must say that I was greatly surprised when I went to my astronomy TA this morning. I went to his office and found the door locked. I was pretty angry because I had double checked when his office hours were. Then I heard his voice coming from a room at the end of the hall. I found that he was already helping a couple people with the same homework. So I basically followed along. He was helpful for each problem. In discussion, people have asked him questions and he was vague. But when he was helping the students in a small group he explained in detail and lead us to the correct answers. I know now that I should have been doing this since the start of the semester.
Sorry about the brevity of this entry but time is limited.

Jeez, this early morning stuff

|

Jeez, this early morning stuff is surely not for me. I know the rest of the world has been and doing its business for a couple hours already but I can't quite keep my eyes open. I have full day in front of me. I'm going to try to figure out my astronomy by going to my TA, then I have training for work. I don't know which program it is but I'm sure it will be useless. So far the only program that I've been trained on and have had questions on is Excel, the questions I get too specific for the general training I had.
After the training and classes are done for the day. I will finally have time to get something to eat. I wrote my parents the other day telling them that PopTarts are necessity. Anyone in college knows that to be true. The reason is because they don't require cooking. Of course, there are a few people out there that think there is no way to eat poptarts other than having them cooked in a toaster. But to a person who doesn't put milk on his cereal cold poptarts are no problem.
Ah what else is there. Let's see, what to say. I have cut down dramatically on my TV watching recently. Midterms and projects have cut down on TV time, but there is always room for Vikings and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The millionaire show is great, but some of the questions that people have lost on are questions my room mate and I were yelling the answers to. I don't know if the "How many tentacles and arms a squid has?" or "Earth's atmosphere is made up primarily of what?" are questions I know because everything is so recent from high school and college. These people on the show have been out of college, I assume, for at least a year or two. I think the ultimate winner who wins the first million is going to be a college student or someone who has graduated recently. That what I'd assume because all of the generals they had to take are fresher in their minds.
Well, it's now off to see what else I can do to my site to spruce it up.

Yes, to all the devotees

|

Yes, to all the devotees who read, the time is 9 in the morning. Never would have thought I'd get up this early, huh? Well, work started at 8 this morning and that is something that I need to do so I can attend the spring semester here. You might notice a few changes with the Bored College Student. Nothing major like yesterday's updates and changes. I still haven't decided what I'm gonna do with the old layout and pages that I have already made. I am going to try to incorporate them into the new layout. I have found that I have no graphic skills. I want to use graphics on this site, but I lack the ability to make any cool graphics. I have access to a bunch of programs but I do not know what I can (or want) to do with the programs.
Ok, enough of the geek talk. College, still trying to get the hang of it. Laundry has become one of those things that I absolutely loath. I end up spending around 3 hours sitting and waiting. Either waiting to wash them but more commonly the wait to dry clothes is the worst. The washers talk 20 minutes but the dryers take anywhere from an hour to hour and a half. But I must say that time spent down in the laundry room is well used in studying. I can go down there with my HUGE bag of laundry and then I'm set to do my studying for 3 hours or so. I have been able to accomplish a lot during those long nights of laundry. The main problem with laundry is that I have so many clothes. I can go two weeks with out running out of clothes, so my laundry piles up and up until I run out of socks. My socks are the only reason I know to do my laundry. When my socks are running low I know that I have to do my laundry soon. By that time my laundry has piled up that I have to do 4 loads. Four loads is an amazing amount of laundry because when I was at home, I would do two loads at the most. But I guess I'll have to live with the massive amounts.
