EMPLOYED!

|

Yep. You read that right. I am now employed. I was offered a job at the Target Corp. downtown Minneapolis. I get to start on Monday and continue working. The actual title is Travel Coordinator, but I basically make sure that what people fill out online with respect to their expenses match up with the receipts that they send in. Also each day I work a help line of some sort taking calls on why a person cannot make their entry into the online system. I'm excited about all the opportunity that Target has even though this may not be my dream job.
As a result of getting the job I took Metroid Prime out of my GameCube. I went out to Sam's Club and found some cheap games. One is a puzzle game that I know Michelle would like to play since it's a puzzle and deals with animals. The other game is Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. I've played MK last night and today for a bit. I got frustrated playing Metroid Prime because I got to an area and I ran out of missiles beofre I could complete the puzzle. I needed another 10 missiles. So I went and saved my game and popped in MK. It's a fun game. I was going through a tutorial where it showed you all the combos and am blown away by all the different combos and intricancies of the game.

Interesting Interviews

|

Ah. The second day of interviews at Target are over with. Three of the four jobs I interviewed for seemed to be very monotonous and tedious jobs. They were working doing reconciliations for either payroll dept, or the accounts of all the actual stores. The payroll job seemed that it would be more of a call center for stores trying to do payroll stuff in addition to doing the reconciling the accounts. It sounded like most of the reconciliation was done automatically, so I would just look for where things don't match up. The job that sounded the most interesting was in the Travel dept. I interviewed with one of the women last time at Target when I was interviewing for the Accounting Associate positions. The interview with her and her supervisor was odd. The supervisor said that she really didn't have any questions for me, but just wanted to meet me. I guess that is a good thing. After the marathon of interviews, I met with the HR lady finally. I've talked to her a few times on the phone, but didn't have a chance to meet her face to face until today. She seemed real nice. She went over some of the benefit stuff. The health and dental don't kick in for 90 days. Another bonus is the discounts at Target, Marshall Field's, and Mervyn's stores. Target doesn't pay for parking downtown. So my options will be drive my car there and pay anywhere between $5.75 and $7.75 each day or take the bus. I would probably end up doing a park and ride thing so drive halfway to Minneapolis and then catch the bus the rest of the way. From what the HR woman said I will know either tomorrow or early next week.
I inadvertently inherited a digital camera from my dad. He went out and bought a new Olympus camera. He asked me to help him post his old 35mm on Ebay to sell and he gave me the digital camera for doing that. So now I'm trying to figure out what all the options mean on the camera. I think I'll just keep it on auto so I don't have to think about it. I don't have much to take pictures of now since I'm here at home by myself. I'm going through picture withdrawl, because I realized that I really don't have that many pictures of my girl and I. So I've been trying to find as many as I can, but all I came up with was one that she took with her camera a week before she went back to Madison. I plan on seeing her once I get a job, so I can take some then.
Other than interviewing and messing with a digital camera I've been playing a ton of Metroid Prime. I told myself that I was only going to play Metroid Prime until I beat it. The game has this cool feature that it tells you the percentage of the game you have completed and how much time you have played. When I started I was at around 13% or 14%, I played one night for an hour or so, and boosted it up to around 21%. At that time I have maybe 4-5 hours playing. The last couple days I've been playing and I now have just over 8 hours and have only completed 31%. So I think within the next month I should be able to finish the game. Then I can move on and focus on Pikmin or something. Hopefully, I won't have that much free time in the future.

Still here

|

Yep that's right. I'm still here. I've now graduated and have moved on to the working world. Well, maybe not working, but unemployed. It's frustrating that I can't find a job doing anything similiar to what I want. At this point I'm almost willing to accept a crap job just to get a pay check. But I'm being picky about the job that I will take. I've been working with a placement agency and the lady their is kind of scary with how agressive she is. One day she called me four times and that is in addition to a call that I made to her after an interview. I guess she has an incentive to get me a job, mainly $2,500. I have Menard's asking me to go and take a drug test, but I know I don't want to work there. I would rather get a Team Lead Position at Target or Mervyn's before Menard's. The pay at Menard's seems real low, and I have an idea of what Mervyn's would be. I'm going to apply to some positions at Mervyn's and Target tomorrow in the morning.
I've interviewed for 3 positions at Target Corp. Not at a store but at the downtown office. It was kind of depressing since there were 3 jobs and 4 interviewees, and I was the one who didn't get a job. I know that there may have been more to it, but I'm a pessimist. I did get another 2 interviews down there though. So I guess that is a good thing. I wasn't terrible since they are still interested hiring me for the "right" position. I did get a call from the HR lady late today and wasn't able to call her back. So far she hasn't set up interviews (her assistant has), so it may be good news to hear directly from her. I plan on getting up early tomorrow and call her back.
I called the placement lady today after my interview and got her voicemail thankfully. I've been trying to think of a way and get the guts to tell her that I would rather look for work on my own for awhile than have her hunt me down. I'm also not too keen on paying her for finding me a job. I'm still holding out hope that something will come from this Target stuff. I really like the location of work and I realize that it won't be my dream job. With a large company like Target I can switch jobs as long as I get a year in. The worst thing is waiting to hear back from the places you want to work. I could really care less about hearing from Menards becasue I don't want to work there. Waiting is something I've never been good at.
